Pinwheel isn’t the best horse in Peter Snowden’s stable but he is up there with the most honest.
The six-year-old has raced 29 times for 10 wins and 12 placings and will be out to enhance that record even further when he lines up in the Listed Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.
“He’s a great horse to have in the stable,” Snowden said.
“He’s no champion but he’s very, very honest, always runs well, never lets you down.
“His first run back indicated to me he’s back in good order.”
Pinwheel, a son of champion Lonhro, resumed with a fourth to Zaratone in the Group Three Sebring Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill earlier this month.
Snowden earmarked the Hall Mark Stakes as a suitable second-up assignment but with a three-week gap between races he sent him to the barrier trials in between to keep the gelding up to the mark.
Pinwheel finished fourth to stablemate Divorces, who will contest Saturday’s Emancipation Stakes.
“He had a soft trial but a nice trial and he’ll take good benefit from it,” Snowden said.
Stable jockey Kerrin McEvoy will ride Pinwheel who has drawn well in gate five and will carry 58.5kg, a kilo less than equal topweights Eagle Falls and Shadows In The Sun.
“Stepping up to 1200 is a plus for him,” Snowden said.
“He’s drawn a nice gate and he’s not too badly off at the weights under this weight scale.
“I think he’ll be more than competitive there.”
